Quick answer: We generally need a minimum starting budget of $1000 a month to cover ad spend and campaign management.
The cost per Google ad "impression" (impression means when your ad is shown when a customer searches for certain terms) are determined by an "auction" style system. We set a daily budget for our ads based on specific search terms and phrases.
Some search terms are more expensive than others due to competitive bidding markets, it depends on the potential revenue value the end customer resulting from the ad is worth.
It also depends on competition for those key search terms in each local market.
Our goal is to get a BIG return on each lead, a profitable "return on ad spend." If we can spend $10 on a lead that turns into a $1000+ lifetime revenue value on that customer, then we just had a 100:1 return on our advertising investment.
