Hi there! I'm Todd Hayes, head honcho at Hayes Digital Marketing. I love helping small businesses grow using my decades of experience in the internet world... and I hate talking about myself in the 3rd person.
UPDATED 07/23/2024
META / Facebook has moved the country restrictions settings to:
Settings & privacy / Audience and visibility / Followers and public content
Good news though, it cut our process to 4 easy steps!
As a digital marketing guy, I help manage DOZENS of Facebook business pages...
...and the junk messages are getting WAY out of hand.
If your Facebook business page is getting slammed with junk "Important Notification" spam messages, here's a quick settings change you can make that will help.
It will let you block your page from being seen in other, irrelevant countries.
Log in to your Facebook business page on your PC then:
Step 1: On the left sidebar, Click "Settings"
Step 2: Now, scroll down and click "Followers and public content" on the left sidebar
Step 3: Next, click EDIT to the right of "Country restrictions"
Step 4: Select "Show only in certain countries" and add the counties that you want to be visible in then click "Save"
In most of my customer's cases, we pick either just the United States or the USA and Canada as the visible countries.
If your customer base spans the globe, then you may want to just block individual countries...
Nigeria, Russia, China, India, the Czech Republic, and Brazil all seem to have issues with spamming.
Of course, we have our own spammers in the good ole USA too and the steps above won't stop those.
It also won't stop the junk mail from accounts that used a VPN to sign up and show their IP address in the United States.
But, in the 18 business accounts (07/24 edit: over 40 now) that I have set to block other countries so far after 3 days (07/24 now 6 months later), we haven't received any* more of the uber-annoying junk messages.
*07/24: A random few have made it through when they had US-based accounts or IP addresses.
I left my business account open to compare against the restricted pages and sure enough... I'm still being bombarded with the junk.
*07/24 Yeah, I have since restricted mine down too.
So far so good.
UPDATE: (01/17/2024) It's now been 3 full days since I started implementing the country restrictions and I have had ZERO new junk messages hit my client's inboxes. 🤞
UPDATE: (07/23/2024) I have updated the steps to reflect the Facebook change in navigation to find the correct settings.
If you have questions or need any help on this, feel free to send me a message here and I'll try and help... but please, don't spam me! 👌😜🤦♂️😂
Thank you!
You're in the cool kids club now!
